Please request (free) membership and once approved, create your profile by providing details on what kind of rental housing you have available and include a bit of background about yourself in the designated fields. Submit your profile and it will become visible on our website. You are now able to receive messages from members that are looking for housing if they are interested in your listing. Please note that, as a lister, you cannot be the first one to reach out to members that are looking for rental housing until they have sent you a message first.

You can set the filters for rental price limit, accommodation type and neighborhood preferences to filter the available listings. When you click on a specific listing profile you will see the details of the available housing including what type of tenant or housemate the lister is looking for. Does this sound like you and does this look like your new home? Then go ahead and send a message to this lister on his lister details profile page to let him know you are interested in the offered housing. Once you have sent an initial message, a lister is able to respond. Note that a lister is not able to send you any initial messages. You have to send an initial message first to open the lines of communication to them to let them know you are interested in the listed housing.

If you are looking for housing and are open to connecting with other members to start looking for housing together. When you create your profile that you are looking for rental housing, you can check the box that you are open to Housemate Connect. By doing so, other members will see the symbol that you are open to teaming up. Under Edit Profile you can also always edit your choice for Housemate Connect.

No, HelloHousemate is a website where you can list, search and communicate with other members for free.

Hello Housemate is a peer to peer rental housing platform for and by real people. If you are a nice and trustworthy person who is respectful to others and is genuinely interested in finding rental housing or finding a new tenant or housemate for your apartment or room, we are looking for you and we are looking forward to welcoming you as our member! Our platform is designed for individuals to be able to connect with one another and is at this time NOT suitable for brokers (sorry brokers!).

If you are not yet a member, login will prompt you to request membership. Once you have submitted your request, Hello Housemate will revert back to you as soon as possible to inform you about your pending membership request. When reviewing a new membership request, our team carefully considers - for example - if a social media account provides sufficient information to reasonably suspect that a person is who they say they are and to get a glimpse of who you are. Because we understand that you would want to start your search for rental housing or a new tenant or housemate immediately, we aim to revert back to you soon on your submitted membership request. Please note that Hello Housemate has full discretion whether or not to approve your membership.

Hello Housemate does an initial check when considering a membership request as it aims to have a trustworthy peer to peer platform for and by real people. Please make sure your social media account sufficiently shows you are a real person, so that your membership request can truly be considered and hopefully approved. From time to time, your account may also be checked by our system and by our team. Those checks are done to ensure the safety of all of our members on our website. We appreciate your patience, our team will approve your membership request as soon as possible.

If your membership request is approved and you login at the website for the first time after that, you will be asked to create a tailored profile regarding your housing needs and wants.

To edit your profile, click on My Account (your name) and then select Edit Profile on the left hand side. Edit options appear under each section of your profile. Photos can also be changed. Be sure to hit submit once you have made edits to your profile so that your changes are saved in your profile.

You should go to Edit Profile and check the box that your place is rented. By checking this box you are notifying Hello Housemate that you have rented your housing and are no longer looking for a tenant or housemate. Your profile will be marked as “RENTED” in the system and other Hello Housemate users will see that your listing is no longer available.

No, Hello Housemate is unable to provide any advice or guidance for individual situations. Hello Housemate is merely meant as a digital marketplace where people can connect with one another in their housing search.

In case of inappropriate behavior or other urgent reasons, you can report a profile of another member by sending us a message through the Contact Us link at the bottom of the homepage or by selecting Contact Us in the dropdown menu on the top right corner of the website.

To help us investigate and resolve the issue as quickly as possible, please also provide us with the device and browser you were using at the time. No, Hello Housemate does not have an app version of the website just yet. However, our website has been optimized and designed for use on mobile browsers.

No, currently the Hello Housemate platform is only available for these four cities.

1. Sending a new message to another member - if you are sending the very first message and you have not yet received any messages from this member

If you are a seeker and you want to send the very first message to another member, please go to the profile page of that other member and send your initial message from there. If you receive any messages, these are visible in your inbox under My Account/Message. You can reply to a message by going to Respond, write your message there and select from the dropdown list which lister/seeker you are sending your message and click on Submit.

Note that if you are a lister (listing available housing) you cannot send the first message to another member, but you can of course respond to any message coming in from members that are looking for housing. See below under 2. on how to do that.

2. Responding to a message received from another member

Go to My Account/Message. You will see your new messages in your inbox and you can respond to those messages by going to Respond, write your message, select from the dropdown which lister/seeker you are sending your message to and click on Submit.
